Community Advisory Committee

Volunteer advisers to the Board of Directors on transit-related issues

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) advises the Salem Area Mass Transit District (Cherriots) Board of Directors on transportation-related issues that impact our community. Established by the Board in 2017, the CAC brings together voices from across the Salem-Keizer area to help shape policies, programs, and services that reflect the needs of the people we serve.

What the CAC Does

The CAC plays a vital role in connecting community voices with decision-making:

Making an Impact → Advises the Board on policies, programs, and services that directly shape how people move around Salem and Keizer.

Amplifying Community Voices → Ensures the perspectives of residents, riders, and advocates are heard and influence transportation decisions.

Facilitating Public Participation → Helps ensure ongoing community involvement, particularly for people with disabilities, in accordance with federal accessibility guidelines.

Membership & Representation

The CAC includes up to 13 voting members appointed by the Cherriots Board of Directors. Members must live and/or work within the Urban Growth Boundary and represent a wide range of community perspectives, including but not limited to:

  • At-large community members who regularly use public transit
  • Business and economic development representatives
  • Healthcare providers and advocates
  • Paratransit users
  • Bike and pedestrian advocates
  • Education representatives
  • Social services representatives
  • Youth leaders (ages 16–24)
  • Community members who reflect equitable racial, ethnic, gender, age, and disability representation
